Eucalyptus gunnii Blue Ice
Known for its intense silvery-blue foliage, Eucalyptus gunnii ‘Blue Ice’ is an exceptional, fast-growing evergreen tree native to Tasmania, where its sweet sap was historically fermented into a cider-like drink. Featuring smooth, light grey bark that flakes away to reveal rich reddish undertones, this hardy variety brings year-round interest and texture to the landscape.
Its young, waxy leaves are rounded, highly aromatic, and significantly bluer than the standard species, making them a popular choice for cut flower arrangements. As the tree matures, it develops long, willow-like blue-green leaves, though routine pruning can easily maintain the vibrant juvenile foliage. Small white blossoms appear in summer, providing a great nectar source for local pollinators.
