Fast-Growing Evergreen Screening & Instant Privacy

Leylandii is the premier choice for rapidly establishing dense evergreen screening and robust windbreaks. Renowned as one of the fastest-growing hedging species, it adds 75 cm to 90 cm of growth annually, providing unmatched privacy, noise reduction, and shelter year-round.

Featuring soft, mid-green scale-like foliage that retains its rich colour through every season, Leylandii creates a thick, uniform wall when trimmed regularly. Highly adaptable and resilient, it thrives in almost all soil types and exposed sites across Ireland and the UK.

Description

Spacing Guide

  • Standard Hedge: Plant 60 cm to 90 cm apart (2 ft to 3 ft).

  • Budget Option: Space up to 120 cm apart (4 ft) for a slower-filling screen.

Planting & Maintenance Guidelines

Planting

  1. Clear weeds and grass from a 60 cm wide strip.

  2. Dig holes twice the width of the root system.

  3. Ensure the base of the stem sits level with the top of the surrounding soil.

  4. Firm in firmly to eliminate air pockets around the roots.

  5. Water thoroughly after planting and keep moist during the first growing season.

Pruning & Care Rules

  • Trim Regularly: Prune 2 to 3 times per season between April and late August to maintain shape and density.

  • Golden Rule: Never cut back into old brown wood. Leylandii will not regenerate from bare brown branches; always leave a layer of green shoots.

  • Shape: Keep the hedge slightly wider at the bottom than the top (an inverted wedge profile) so sunlight reaches the lower foliage and prevents dieback.
